Sunshine Blogger Award

I have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award, by Allan at: PhotoBlography. This award is peer recognition for bloggers that inspire positivity and joy.

YAY Me!

It’s super de duper nice to be recognized as such!

Thanks again, Allan. It was really fun and I’m touched that you thought of me.

Allan takes the most beautiful photographs of all the interesting places he goes and the fun stuff he gets up to. He writes poems too and has a great sense of humour! Plus, he’s a kind and decent human being. Do yourself a favour and go check him out!

Here is how this all works:

Allan’s questions-which were his nominator’s questions too- and my answers:

If you knew you would die tomorrow, except crying or whatsoever, what you would do or say? It would all depend on the circumstance of my death. Am I to fall suddenly incapacitated and require a soft surface for which to lay upon, because I am unable to do much? In that case, I’d gather my family and friends all around me as I lay on a bed overlooking the front window and eat and drink all the things, and laugh and talk and listen to music before I shooed everyone off so I could write in my journal and write notes to my loved ones and then, I would go to sleep, curious about what was still to come….

If, I was able to keep my vigor, I would head out into the wild for a hike, friends and family included. We’d stop for meals and lounging and then when I grew weary, I’d lay myself down and listen to the life around me, say my goodbyes and then meditate until I died, fell asleep or both 🙂

This is such a great question because it brings up a dilemma for me. I don’t want to be writing out notes while I’m dying! Maybe that’s something I need to do now…this is good Death Doula stuff!

Why do you like blogging?

Blogging is an outlet for my mind. A way to express myself creatively with words. I enjoy meeting new people, from the great vastness of our world. I enjoy their different views of the world. I soak up a lot of inspiration and wisdom. I learn about new things. I am insanely curious about everything. Blogging allows me to quench that in a safe, socially acceptable nosey way 😉

If you had to give up something in your life, what would it be?

Certainly not this song…

Do you believe in love?

I AM love. YOU are LOVE. So, yes. I do. I think our society focuses on romantic love waaaaay to much, often to our own detriment. If I had to do it all over again, I’d work on loving myself first, from a young age and then worry about the rest of it all later, if at all. It’d be really, REALLY nice if we would love our EARTH and her creatures with a respectful fervent devotion, too.

If you won the lottery today, what’s the first thing you do?

Pee my pants! Ha Ha. Seriously I would probably pace nervously, call the husband and then freak out until the money was safely in my bank account. Once I calmed down, I would book a trip somewhere so I could just be and allow the wisdom to come to me about what to do and then, using that wisdom I’d set up my life, and my family. I know for certain what I would buy first, which I think is really what this questions asks. I would buy a small house on a plot of land (big enough to sustain a living) by the ocean, in my name and my name only. I would then set up a trust to ensure there is always money to maintain said house and I would bequeath it down the line to the daughter’s in my family. It will be a safe haven for my female ancestors, forever more.

Do you forgive a betrayal or adultery if you’re married?

Ha! Been there. Done that. Or rather, doing that. I could write a book on this. And I may one day, my journals tell a tale, yikes. So, it’s not adultery I dealt with but it was a betrayal. I often say I sometimes WISH it had been adultery because at least then I’d know how to deal with that. I have a very strong boundary against such things.

Anyway, my husband had a mental break and he did some things that were very hurtful. Because the catalyst of his actions were a mental break, and because up until then he had never been anything but an excellent husband, I decided with the encouragement and help of a trained professional ( which I HIGHLY recommend) to stick it out and see if this 20+ year marriage could be saved.

I’m STILL not sure how I feel about the whole thing, but I often say this: It’s not for the faint of heart.

And as I’m still in the midst of things, I really feel like I’m unable to say anything about the subject with any wisdom or authority. Some days I soar, some days I really struggle.

I’m not unhappy. I’m not suffering. I’m living my life, mostly with joy, in the now, and taking it day by day. I believe in second chances. I don’t do thirds. So, to answer the question, I think it all depends on the circumstances, and it’s an ongoing, ever changing process that I hope none of you ever have to go through or put anyone else through either! ❤

Tell me why someone should be close to you or be friends with you? (even if you don’t give a shit)

If I was to sell myself to people I would say that I am the kind of person who wont give up on you, even when things get hard. I’m generally a bright light. I am fiercely protective and encouraging. You will not be ALLOWED to continuously talk shit about yourself in my presence 🙂 ❤ I bring a sense of whimsy and fun, I’m curious about everything and game for anything. I will support all your loves and interests and be as excited for them as you are AND I’m a great baker/cook. So…you’ll eat well!

What you really love to read, that you can’t stop or ever feel bored?

Memoirs and recipe books! I’m actually reading a book right now, that’s a memoir AND a recipe book! (Picnic in Provence. A Memoir with Recipes. Elizabeth Bard ) I’ve always loved reading about the lives of other humans. They don’t need to famous or known for anything, I love them all the same. Sometimes, the more ordinary the better because here’s the thing; THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ORDINARY! Every.single.person out there has a unique story to tell. I enjoy learning what that unique thing is. As for cookbooks: I like to eat!

What makes you happy?

All the things. Too many to accurately recount here. Today it’s:

The thought of my squishy Hot Cross Bun I plan to have with lunch. Lune. Trips. Pie. Bird song. Feeling secure. Being inside on a blustery day. Solving a challenging problem.

Have you ever read a blog post that had a great impact on you?

Oh yes. I read those all the time. I think every blog post I read has an impact on me. Even if it doesn’t seem so at the time, who knows where it may lead me in the future?

Describe the person of your dreams, physically and mentally / emotionally.

Ha Ha Ha! Oh boy.

I don’t think such a being exists outside of oneself. Which yes, I guess that’s why we call them a “person of your dreams” because they don’t exist but still…I’m loathe to go there. I KNOW it’s only fantasy but it just seems so unfair, to both myself and other humans. Yes, I realize I’m putting waaay too much thought into this, ha! Were I forced at gunpoint to choose, I’d say any goofy, big old dog! Humans are, well … human. I just can’t think of them as anything but.

That was fun! I love giving my brain a good stir!

I nominate:

Any of you out there who wishes to play along! There is no way I could only choose eleven of you. You ALL inspire positivity and joy, otherwise I wouldn’t have you in my life! ❤ ❤

Here are your questions. Some are the same, some are different. You may choose to use them as you wish.

  1. If you knew you would die tomorrow, how would you proceed with the rest of your life?
  2. What do you think about pineapple on pizza?
  3. Why do you like blogging?
  4. What do you wish to have done with your body when you die? Why?
  5. Would you forgive a betrayal or adultery in your romatic relationship?
  6. Who, besides your own self, is your favourite person, dead, alive, known to you or otherwise and why?

Simple Pleasures: Hot Laundry

As you all know, this Winter has been a cold one. ( As Winters are…) I’ve survived mostly by keeping the cold goings on, in the background. I don’t remark about it, I don’t pay any attention to it. I focus on whatever is in front of me at the time. It’s been working great and has allowed me to start noticing all the LOVELY things about Winter, all the little gifts from the cold. Like:

Hot laundry on a cold day!

There is something so comforting about folding hot laundry when you’re freezing your ass off. Its not just the temperature that makes me feel good, its the great contrast between temperatures. Icy air against burning hot fabric. The hot makes the cold feel GOOD! Which in my mind, is something of a miracle 🙂 I may almost miss this one. I may even look forward to this come Summer…whaaaaaaat?!

With Spring well on her way, our lives are heading for a big change! The things we find pleasurable will change so I want to know, what are some of your Winter pleasures?

I’ll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours?

  1. Name the hardest thing you experienced this year?
  2. Name the easiest!
  3. What friendships inspired you the most?
  4. Where and how were you most helpful in this world?
  5. What brought out a sense a wonder in you ?
  6. What was your greatest mistake?
  7. What was your greatest success?
  8. What scared the crap out of you?
  9. When were you brave?
  10. How did you best love yourself?
  11. How did you best love others?
  12. Name one embarrassing moment!
  13. Brag about one thing shamelessly
  14. What was your biggest lesson in 2018?

I love lists and I love reflecting. Won’t you join me in doing so? Take my questions and answer them here or on your own blog. (Please be sure to link back to me so I can see them!)

  1. Name the hardest thing you experienced this year? Choosing between people I liked, loved even, and my strong moral code. The choosing wasn’t hard, I knew what I was doing was right, it was hard because I went against the wishes of people and that hurt them. My work child and her mum, especially.
  2. Name the easiest! Spending time with and loving the stuffing out of my grandbabies. Enjoying my pets and finally having enough in me to give them their due!
  3. What friendships inspired you the most? I have a friend, I met at work who is the softest, kindest, least judgemental person on the planet. Just being with her, is like being in a perma-hug. We’ve never been close but this year, she really figured prominently in my life with her kind words and her soothing way of being. She inspired me to keep opening myself up to softness and vulnerability.
  4. Where and how were you most helpful in this world? With people. My main agenda in life is to inspire, empower and encourage others. I am your biggest fan. A perpetual cheerleader.
  5. What brought out a sense a wonder in you ? Nature. Always Nature. In particular the sky and the animals I met in Tanzania.
  6. What was your greatest mistake? Staying at my job longer than my expiration date and living in the past.
  7. What was your greatest success? Quitting my job to shock of EVERYONE who knows me and travelling as my weird and witchy self 🙂
  8. What scared the crap out of you? Flying into and landing at an airport in a wee plane, sideways. All skitchy and out of control!
  9. When were you brave? All of last year. Every day. Living each moment. Experiencing the unknown.
  10. How did you best love yourself? I spent the last year, keeping my promises, listening to my body, heart, soul and mind and really cultivating boundaries and a personal code of honour.
  11. How did you best love others? I have tried my best to become a better listener and to love people exactly as they are.
  12. Name one embarrassing moment! Ha! The time I got “trapped ” in a washroom in Amsterdam behind a door I was pushing on when I should have been pulling. It had a very strong magnet as well as a lock so when I did try to pull it, I wasn’t using enough force. I called out to the loooong line of ladies waiting in the common area and they assisted me. *groan!
  13. Brag about one thing shamelessly! I am brave, kind, loving and wise. I am a badass divine being of light. (You are too)
  14. What was your biggest lesson in 2018? You have to take full responsibility for your life and everything in it. Your experience is entirely up to you. You own you. You owe you. Blaming other people is just a waste of your precious time. If you want something YOU have to make it happen. YOU are responsible for your own happiness…your own … everything!

Ok. Now its your turn!

Havin’ A Time.

I’m havin’ a time. And not a good time! Boooo to that!

Some shit is happening in a loved one’s life and there is nothing I can do about any of it. As a human with a pathological need to do something this is a huge challenge! Its a challenge for most people. We want to help. We want to fix. We want to soothe. We want to make it better and we want to make it all go away.

Sadly, that’s impossible so instead I’ve turned my attention toward self care until the suffering passes. I’m distracting myself with memes!

When I worked at the child care centre, I was in charge of the Facebook page. I posted relevant things to the page like a social media whiz. I was good at it and received much praise. What they don’t know is that toward the end of my days with them, I was >this< close to posting this helpful infographic about The Scorpion Pits, ha.

Dogs!

This one always makes me laugh like a loon. Its a good, solid plan!

Seems like this would work! Plus, you’d attract all sorts of other dogs just in the day to day too, which is never bad. Unless the dogs are vicious. Then that’s bad but we’re being optimistic here! No bad days and no bad dogs!

Cats on the other hand…cats are assholes. Which is precisely why we love them!

Except for maybe these guys. Yeah…for maybe like 5 seconds! I fostered a litter of kittens and had them sleeping with me in my bedroom. THAT was an experience. Have you ever had your eyeball scratched out? Not pleasant and the thing is, they don’t care. Kittens think its perfectly reasonable to attack your fucking eyelashes as you sleep. Jerks. Cute, little fluffy jerks. I’d totally do that again. Thrill of my life!

Ha! Catthew! I’m totally naming my next cat Catthew . I’ve had cats named Ned Buckle, Wallace, Miles, Larry, December, Wizard, Hyena, Orangey, Stripey, Dot, Dust Bunny, Spider and Cornelius. Catthew seems almost normal.

This one doesn’t make me laugh so much as it inspires me.  It’s got a swear and its trying to be helpful. I like.

Distraction and silliness do work! I still have chest pain but my mind isn’t racing, so that’s something. I’m going to keep at it…I really like the idea of furiously dancing 🙂 What do you do to help yourself through tough times when you feel powerless?

Salty, Fizzy & Sweet.

Somewhere in my interweb travels, I came across this southern ( as in American South ) treat.

Salted peanuts in Coke.

As a lover of many combinations the masses find strange, I was all over that!

The idea is to take a few swigs of your Coke, pour in your sleeve of salted peanuts and “Bottoms Up!”

Purists say it must be in a glass bottle to get the full experience. The only glass bottles of Coke I could find were diet and I’m morally opposed to diet anything, so my Coke was in a plastic bottle.

20181028_1434574760071493372742461.jpg

My verdict? It was really good! Not weird or strange at all! Whoever invented this was fucking brilliant. The salty peanuts and their rich creaminess really cut through the sugar of the pop and complimented that signature caramel essence. The fizzy burn came through for a satisfying ending. I’m a total fan.

It was really filling. This would make for a meal. In fact, I think part of the lore is that farmer’s would eat this (drink this) “on the go” for lunch during their busy days.

Have you ever tried this combo? What did you think?  Do you have another combo that others find strange? Tell me all about it! I’m always looking for interesting new things!

F*ck Up Friday * Should Have Ordered Take Out.

Happy Friday!

If you’re new here, Fuck Up Friday was born out of a need to cringe less and love myself more. Instead of being ashamed and afraid of my screw ups and mistakes, I thought it’d be fun to share them, with you. and encourage you to share with me so that we could all see that mistakes are a part of life. Sometimes they can even be funny and most likely, you, me, WE are not alone.

High on my Pickle Pizza success, I thought I’d whip up my own half-assed version of a Margherita pizza. I was SURE it was going to be amazing!

I smeared on the oil and pressed the garlic. I sliced the mozzarella and hand squished my garden fresh tomatoes. I took a photo:

20181007_1240408119261399587155739.jpg

And then I popped it under the broiler and, went and did my hair.

Friends! You’re intelligent humans. You know what happens next!

20181007_1244201430741621394311659.jpg

Behold. A Photographic F*ck Up!

ARG! I was so mad and yet not surprised because this is what happens when you leave stuff under the broiler. So, I cut it into slices, rolled em up and ate it anyway. It didn’t taste too bad, if you didn’t have to look it…

Have you had any cooking Oops this week? Any other mistakes? Do share, so I feel less lame! Kthanxbye!
