Happy Lune! 2020

Somewhere in the month of June Lune, lies my birthday!

This is probably only exciting to moi, ha, yet here I am all excited anyway because in addition to celebrating myself I want to encourage you, to celebrate YOURSELF a little bit extra too. It doesn’t have to be a month long birthday celebration. It doesn’t even have to be your birthday. Just do something!

Why?

Lots of reasons. Sit with yourself and it will come.Pick the one you like best and run with it.

I started to celebrate myself grandly after realizing that I and I alone was responsible for my positive experience on Earth.

Also, I’m a bit of a Silly Goose.

Also, it makes people smile.

Also, I REALLY LOVE CAKE.

And good times. And growing wiser. And growing into myself.

So now, here is your Lune homework:

Tell me one thing you like about yourself.

Look, I’ll even do it too.

I like that I’m young at heart and able to get excited about all the things.

OK….now GO!

What do YOU like about YOURSELF? Tell me in the comments.

Love, Squishy Hugs and Birthday Cheer to you!

Birthday List

Somebody, somewhere recently inspired me to start a Birthday List.

Every year this person makes a list of all the cool things she wants to do before her next birthday. She bases how many items to place on her list by how old she is and gets to work!

I thought it’d be fun to do something similar but since I’m impatient and don’t want to wait for my birthday, aaaaand since my birth month is six months from now I thought I’d do this:

Split the difference and create and execute half a list now and half a list in Lune! Here’s my list:

  1. Make homemade boba pearls and Use my homemade boba pearls in Brown Sugar Boba Tea.
  2. Make Salt Water Taffy.
  3. Read Forest Gump.
  4. Read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café.
  5. Make pulled sugar candies.
  6. Make Jamie Oliver’s Jerk Ham
  7. Make soup dumplings.
  8. Make my own cheese.
  9. Make Vietnamese Egg Coffee
  10. Go for a winter hike.
  11. Treat a friend to a fancy meal.
  12. Create six pieces of art-one a month.
  13. Get Inka Trail tattoo.
  14. Watch a TEDX talk video every week.
  15. Knit 3 scarves for Chase The Chill YEG
  16. Make Honey Crullers.
  17. Celebrate something silly every month.
  18. Make yogurt out of coconut milk.
  19. Make cake doughnuts.
  20. Take Hubs out for breakfast.
  21. Throw/donate something away every day for a month.
  22. Spend one day living without time.
  23. Make fried eggs, Spanish style.

Hmmmm, this list just looks like an excuse to try a lot of food.

Ha. But there’s other stuff on there too! Knitting for charity…a thought experiment, acting on my generous thoughts instead of just thinking about them…it’s not all food!😆

Ok. Whatever. I like to eat!

Heehee.

I’ll revisit this again in Lune and we’ll see how I’ve done! Won’t you join me for your Birthday too? 😀

Lunerday!

The celebration of my birth month continues. Just about two more weeks left. June is just whipping by us!

It’s been fun! I’ve thrown all routine out the window. Unless I have an appointment… I do what I want. This usually means being outside in the garden. Either weeding or reading. Strangely I find both equally relaxing. Weeding is actually really fun AND I’m developing a wicked tan!

Monday:

These were OK. Not as good as the Peek Freans version though.

Tuesday:

Palm Bay beverages are made in Vancouver, BC. My old stomping grounds! This was OK. Strong but quick passionfruit flavour, no raspberry that I could taste. Bit of a vodka-y after taste. Not the worst thing I’ve ever had but I probably wont buy them again.

Wednesday:

I am IN LOVE with these earrings! They’re made out of flowers! And they are just so cool looking. The colour is out of this world. Krista is a really cool person too. I met her (and bought these) at a local craft show, here in Edmonton. You can check out her site HERE which I see is under maintence SO you can find her here, on ETSY

Thursday:

I’m a sucker for handmade soap. These four are all delicious smelling AND the one I’m using now- Sophisticated Hippie- lathers up really nicely. I can tell its made with quality ingredients because my skin feels so soft and clean after each use. Apple Island Naturals is also in BC and are run by nice people! Check them out HERE.

Friday:

Isn’t this the cutest thing!? And given my current bird obsession, very appropriate! The eggs are such a vibrant teal and they’re opalescent…they glow against my skin. Handmade again, and the artisan was a lovely human. You can find her HERE. Tracey is in Calgary, AB.

Saturday:

Get in MY BELLY!

Yes, that is a hamburger. My FAVOURITE hamburger, a Teen Burger from A&W 🙂 Nom Nom Nom

You can now find me on Instagram >>>over there, in the sidebar. Follow me, if you’re so inclined.

I hope your weekend is going great! Love & Squishy Hugs. ❤

Happy Lune- 2019

Lune – the month I renamed in honour of celebration, gratitude, self love and ..erm…myself – has arrived and I’m so thankful to be here to celebrate another one!

My birthday is sometime in June -hence all the fuss- and Lune started as an act of self love . I grew up believing there was something deeply wrong with me, like so many other folks do, for so many different reasons. (It’s all BS BTW. You’re actually, really cool ) ANYway, this one month out of the year became a way to dispel that myth! I’ve found the benefits of Lune spill out through the other months too. I treat myself better. I don’t allow others to treat me badly. I set better boundaries and have a better appreciation for all the little wonders in the world.

My unapologetic celebration of self inspires others too. I’m the only one with a month long birthday celebration but my friends respect and admire my tradition and tell me it brings them joy and gets them thinking about actively loving themselves too.

Squeee!

Celebrating anything brings joy and happiness and really is an expression of gratitude. Gratitude can be an antidote to a lot of things that ail us so while my birth month shenanigans might seem silly and frivolous (Even to myself sometimes ) I will fiercely celebrate ALL THE THINGS anyway. My little anarchist heart in action ❤

As I grow older , my celebration becomes less about celebrating me and more about celebrating being ALIVE. A side effect of being a Death Doula I guess 🙂 HA, and middle age too probably!

Ha Ha True Story.

My end goal is to get myself to the place where I celebrate life every single day, even in a small way and it all starts in Lune.

What does that even look like?

Stay tuned, I plan to document the WHOLE thing.

There will be presents. And delicious treats. And fun adventures!

In the meantime, here’s some inspiration to get you thinking about your own life. It’s longer than your average video but well worth the watch. I promise.

Love & Squishy Hugs to YOU! ❤
