A-Z Challenge – Ugly

Who decided that an ugly appearance was a bad thing?

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t put on this earth to be pretty for ANYONE. If someone finds me unattractive… well, that’s a them problem.

Why are we, as a society so bloody OBSESSED with beauty? I get the whole biology thing but seriously, aren’t we supposed to be better than that? We’ve got these big brains! Cant we use them to override some of that evolutionary nonsense?

And WHY do we think that if one person or another isn’t pleasing to us, then that person shouldn’t be pleasing to any other? There are SEVEN PLUS BILLION human beings on this planet and I’m expected to please them all?!

F8ck that!

Why is my worth dependant on my appearance?

It’s not. Nor is yours.

I don’t know…the whole idea of this just seems so stupid to me. This is something I truly don’t understand. It boggles my mind.

  1. Whoever said “Beauty is only skin deep” had it all wrong. There are some beautiful appearing people around who are self affected, but have no inner beauty. We need to stop trying to live up to someone’s ideals and be ourselves. Stay well Lael. Allan

  2. β™₯ well expressed ! Your post made me think of the old volkswagen bugs, some people think they are ugly, but I have always loved them, maybe the “ugliness” to me just made them more lovable.
It also reminded me of Sawyer Brown and the song “Some Girls Do”. I love the energy of that song, and it kinda speaks to your point, Muah back.

  3. I know “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is an old saying. Where I think the value of beauty was injected was when materialism became a driving force in a society. If you can “own” the prettiest object, you win. To me worshipping beauty is worshipping an idol. That said, I like appreciating things that I find beautiful. The thing is, my eyes behold beauty where they will and depend on no standard.

  4. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you shouldn’t really be bothered about those who think you are ugly. Ugliness also depends on cultural biases. For instance in some cultures have curly hair is gorgeous while in others, straight hair is a sign of beauty. Similarly, some people find cacti and other succulents beautiful while others find them ugly. So ……
